Unemployment and the Catch 22

I have recently reached that point in my life where I need to Knuckle down and find a job, and It sounds incredibly easy, especially when you look on the internet and you see all of these websites and agencies offering help with your CV and to get in contact with employers. This whole job hunting thing should be a rather simple pursuit.

It is no where near as easy as you would think! a large amount of the problems I have faced is that my career history is within Hospitality, essentally pouring pints, taking out food, washing up and talking to drunk people. This may have put money in my bank account, and it was quite a nice amount considering in the summer of my 18th i was taking £100 a week and thats excluding the drinks you would get if you got included in rounds.

However I think I’ve grown out of working in Pubs so i am looking for a Sales or PR job. The 9 - 5 Rat race everyone complains about, I don’t see whats wrong with it to me, That is heaven! you work when everyone else works and you are free when everyone is its a great idea!

Then we get to my problem. I attend the interviews, i wieve a net of long expanded answers to the interviewers questions when a simple Yes would do. I apply a ribbon of anacdotes which allow the conversation to change its course allowing myself to show my personality more then the simple questions let me then they get to the problem. The brick wall that stands between me and a foot on the ladder.
“so you do have an experience in Sales and Marketing?”

That is the point when i know i’ve lost it. I end up answering with a much more somber tone then i ahve been talking before.
” No however as you can see from my record i have experience in customer service” from working in the Local pub talking to the person on the other side of the bar which of the Beatles wrote   ‘I am the Walrus’.

See the problem with trying to get a job nower days is that everyone wants experience. even for the most basic of entry level jobs you need experience in the business before you can get a job. however you cant get the experience if no one is willing to give you a chance.

Bit of a bugger isn’t it.
